Studio Ghibli Announces a GHIBLI PARK for 2020 - Make Your Travel Plans Now

It was announced this week in a joint press conference with Toshio Suzuki, Studio Ghbili producter and Hideaki Oomura, Aichi prefecture governor; that a 200-acre theme park will created called Ghibli Park. Located within the Aichi Prefecture's Expo Park of Nagoya, Japan, this theme park will be based upon the film My Neighbor Totoro. Studio Ghibli will be splitting the costs with the Aichi Prefecture administration.

There is already a one structure on the Expo grounds that is on theme. A recreation of Satsuki and Mei's house from My Neighbor Totoro was built as an attraction for the 2005 World EXPO and has remained and been maintained since.

With the love and popularity the film has, much deservedly, I think its a safe bet this will be the tourist attraction that the parties involved hope it will be. The goal is to have this theme park ready by the year 2020.
