Marvel Multiverse Table Top Role-Playing Game - Summer 2023

A new Marvel TTRPG is heading our way for Summer 2023. I have some really fond memories of the Marvel Superheroes Roleplaying game put out by TSR in the 1980's. It was right along side Dungeons & Dragons as one of my introductory games to ttrpgs. This new game looks to be based purely on a six-sided dice system. The playtest rulebook for the game is available now for anyone who wants to run an early version of the game through its paces before the finalized version comes out next year. I'll admit I'm curious enough make that purchase myself. Here is the official press release from Marvel:  MARVEL LAUNCHING CORE RULEBOOK FOR NEW TABLETOP ROLE-PLAYING GAME IN SUMMER 2023   ‘MARVEL MULTIVERSE ROLE-PLAYING GAME: CORE RULEBOOK’ AVAILABLE JUNE 2023   FOLLOWED BY ‘MARVEL MULTIVERSE ROLE-PLAYING GAME: THE CATACLYSM OF KANG’ AVAILABLE JULY 2023     Use the D616 game system to embody your favorite Super Heroes and Super Villains!     New York, NY— August 22, 2022 –  New adventu

2011 Video Game Award Nominees Announced

Dr. Oracle: Its that time of year again, the Spike cable network has announced the 2011 Video Game Award (VGA) nominees. Overall I'm respecting the selections, but at the same time I'm searching my memory for all that came out this year. My brother offers his two cents as well in regards to some of the nominations, between the two of us we might have played a quarter of those nominated. What can I say we're busy guys.

Chimpanzee Rage: I've only actually played like 4 or 5 of these games total and that is including the DLC on there but i'll give it a shot. I do know that Skyrim was included on this list before it was even released...which is interesting.

Game of the Year
Batman: Arkham City (Warner Bros/Rocksteady)
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Bethesda)
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Nintendo)
Portal 2 (Valve)
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (Sony/Naughty Dog)

Studio of the Year
Bethesda
Naughty Dog
Rocksteady
Valve

Best Xbox 360 Game
Batman: Arkham City (Warner Bros/Rocksteady)
Forza Motorsport 4 (Microsoft/Turn 10)
Gears of War 3 (Microsoft/Epic)
Portal 2 (Valve)

Chimpanzee Rage: Weird that Xbox only has 2 exclusives up for game of the year, the other two are one all systems.

Best PS3 Game
Infamous 2 (Sony/Sucker Punch)
Killzone 3 (Sony/Guerrilla Games)
LittleBigPlanet 2 (Sony/Media Molecule)
Uncharted 3 (Sony/Naughty Dog)

Chimpanzee Rage: Odd that Portal 2 made it for Xbox and PC but not for the Sony.

Best Wii Game
Disney's Epic Mickey (Disney Interactive/Junction Point)
Kirby's Return to Dream Land (Nintendo/HAL)
Lost in Shadow (Hudson)
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Nintendo)

Chimpanzee Rage: Wii obviously is hurting for games if Epic Mickey made the list, that was a solid game but by no means great, had a lot of camera issues.

Dr. Oracle: Its a fun game and it looks good, but yeah nothing industry shattering. But seriously, they had to put in four nominees, I can't think of anything that would knock Epic Mickey off this list from the pool of Wii games that came out this year.

Best PC Game
Battlefield 3 (EA/DICE)
Minecraft (Mojang)
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (Atari/CD Projekt RED)
Portal 2 (Valve)

Best Multiplayer
Battlefield 3 (EA/DICE)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Activision/Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer)

Chimpanzee Rage: Best multiplayer should always just include Team Fortress 2 b/c it rocks.

Dr.Oracle: Yeah no surprise there.

Best Driving Game
Dirt 3 (Codemasters)
Driver: San Francisco (Ubisoft/Reflections)
Forza Motorsport 4 (Microsoft/Turn 10)
Need For Speed: The Run (EA/Black Box)

Dr. Oracle: No content in my mind, Forza Motorsport 4 is THE driving game right now.

Best Fighting Game
The King of Fighters XIII (Atlus/SNK Playmore)
Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds (Capcom)
Mortal Kombat (Warner Bros/Netherrealm)
WWE All Stars (THQ/THQ San Diego)

Dr. Oracle: MvC3 is the winnah.. in my book

The Binding of Isaac (Edmund McMillen and Florian Himsl)

Best Adapted Video Game
Back to the Future: The Game (Telltale)
Batman: Arkham City (Warner Bros Interactive/Rocksteady)
Captain America: Super Soldier (Sega/Next Level)
Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (Lucasarts/Traveller's Tales)

Chimpanzee Rage: Games based on adapted works have certainly come a long way, 2 or 3 of those games are legitimately fantastic games.

Dr. Oracle: I know it, this category used to really be the land of drek. But I own or want own most in this category.

Best Song in a Game
Build That Wall (Darren Korb, Bastion)
Exile Vilify (The National, Portal 2)
I'm Not Calling You A Liar (Florence And The Machine, Dragon Age II)

Want You Gone (Jonathan Coulton, Portal 2)

Best Original Score
Bastion (Supergiant)
Batman: Arkham City (Warner Bros/Rocksteady)
Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Square Enix/Eidos)
Portal 2 (Valve)

Dr. Oracle: I'm a disrespectful gamer because I often turn down the sound or listen to my own music. Arkham City is the rare exception.

Best Graphics
Batman: Arkham City (Warner Bros/Rocksteady)
L.A. Noire (Rockstar/Team Bondi)
Rage (Bethesda/id)
Uncharted 3 (Sony/Naughty Dog)

Dr. Oracle: You could throw a dart and come up with a legit winner. Not an easy choice. The fan boy in me is rooting for Arkham City.

Best Performance By a Human Male
J.K. Simmons as Cave Johnson (Portal 2)
Mark Hamill as The Joker (Batman: Arkham City)
Nolan North as Nathan Drake (Uncharted 3)
Stephen Merchant as Wheatley (Portal 2)

Chimpanzee Rage: Mark Hamill should get a lifetime achievement award for his Joker work in the Arkham games.
Dr. Oracle: Mark Hamill IS the Joker and with this being his final piece as the Joker he's gotta be a shoe-in for this category.

Best Performance By a Human Female
Claudia Black as Chloe Frazer (Uncharted 3)
Ellen McLain as GLaDOS (Portal 2)
Emily Rose as Elena Fisher (Uncharted 3)
Tara Strong as Harley Quinn (Batman: Arkham City)

Best Downloadable Game
Bastion (Supergiant)

Stacking (THQ/Double Fine)
Trenched (Microsoft/Double Fine)

Best DLC
Fallout: New Vegas - Old World Blues
Mass Effect 2: Arrival
Mortal Kombat: Freddy Krueger
Portal 2 Peer Review

Chimpanzee Rage: Mass Effect 2: Arrival was horrible DLC for an awesome game not sure how that made the list.
